Our district has been in the spotlight multiple times over the last two decades for sexual abuse scandals and inadequate responses to these complaints and allegations - both for student to student incidents and staff to student incidents. While the district has made many strides in addressing these issues, recent evaluations by the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) of incidents that occurred in 2017-2019 found that our district is still lacking in several areas. This means that our district has not been appropriately holding students and staff accountable for Title IX violations, nor providing adequate support for our students who have been harassed on our campuses.
No more allegations swept under the rug, no more running from accountability. As a therapist I’ve seen first hand how these experiences have a lasting traumatic effect, and it is unacceptable for these oversights to continue any longer. As your representative, I will bring a fresh set of eyes to this issue, and will advocate for our district to go above and beyond the requirements of the OCR & DOJ to keep our students safe.
